Company Appoints MedTech Veterans Michel Thérin as Executive Chairman and Frédéric Banegas as COO and Interim CEO to Steer Next Phase of Development
PARIS – August 20, 2025 – Ganymed Robotics, a pioneer in computer vision software and robotics for orthopedic surgery, today announced a significant technological leap forward in achieving the long-sought-after “holy-grail” of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA): a robotic procedure performed without invasive pins, markers or arrays.
The company’s integrated system has demonstrated in compelling preclinical tests the ability to simplify surgical workflows, shorten operating times and reduce procedural costs. This breakthrough is poised to remove the primary barriers that have limited the adoption of robotics in high-throughput environments like Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).
To accelerate this new phase of development, Ganymed Robotics’ Board of Directors has appointed Michel Thérin, DVM, PhD, as Executive Chairman and Frédéric Banegas, PhD, as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This follows the departure of cofounder and former CEO Sophie Cahen, whose foundational contributions have been instrumental to the company’s success.
“For years, the promise of robotics in knee surgery has been hampered by the complexity and invasiveness of systems that require surgeons to drill pins into bone,” said Dr. Thérin. “We are on the cusp of delivering a solution that eliminates this fundamental challenge. I am confident in the leadership of our new team and energized by the pace of our technology progress. We are building something truly transformative in orthopedic robotics.”
Ganymed Robotics’ confidence is based on the successful integration of three core innovations:
1. Automated Anatomy Registration: Within seconds, it reconciles the pre-operative surgical plan with the patient’s live anatomy, a step that takes several minutes with current robotic and navigation systems.
2. Continuous Anatomy Tracking: Provides real-time, marker-less tracking of the anatomy throughout the procedure, eliminating the need for cumbersome and invasive fixation pins.
3. Autonomy-Ready Robotic Arm: A high-performance, blade-based system designed for rapid, precise bone cuts that performs knee surgery without leg fixation, meeting key procedural requirements and future autonomous capabilities.

“What makes this breakthrough possible is our powerful and proprietary technical foundation,” said Dr. Banegas. “We have built our algorithms on a unique database of medical imaging and computer vision datasets, refined over several years and protected by a strong IP portfolio. This, combined with deep insights from leading U.S. and EU surgeon advisory panels, has enabled us to advance a system in development that is designed to directly address the real-world needs of surgeons and ASCs.”
Members of the Ganymed Robotics team will attend the 2025 American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Annual Meeting from October 23-26 in Dallas, Texas and showcase the company’s latest progress.

About Ganymed Robotics
Founded in 2018, Ganymed Robotics collaborates closely with leading international surgeons to develop a radically new approach to surgical robotics. The company aims to improve patient outcomes, enhance the surgeon experience, and increase the efficiency of joint replacement surgeries.
Ganymed Robotics has created a unique robot-with-eyes platform that lets surgeons see beyond what the naked eye can and execute precise movements. Its autonomy-ready robotic arm integrates multiple multimodal sensors to understand and interpret the surgical environment effectively. This technology helps clinicians perform procedures that are less invasive, more efficient and simplified.
